A Sommelier's Blog - First Blog

Hello Wine Lovers,

This is the first blog entry I have ever done, so bear with me until I find my groove.

I will always start the blog with a wonderful wine quote from some wordperson that you might know and definitely some you don't. I will then pick a daily grape varietal and give some background and suggested food pairing. We will talk about upcoming events at The Wine Lover and elsewhere around San Diego, The O.C. and L.A. Yes, I do have some range! We will also talk about food and wine pairings, wine philosophy, and just all around geek talk about wine and how we love it so much. You will be able to find recipes, info on certain wineries, winemakers news, news from all wine regions as well.

I feel for this blog to be successful, I need input from my readers. Please feel free to ask any questions you have, anything that is on your mind, or just a response to the previous days blog entry. I believe that the dialog between us will make for very interesting reading.

Grape du Jour:

Gruner Veltliner - [GROO-ner FELT-lih-ner] White wine, a very citrusy, mineraly grape grown mostly in Austria and a little Germany, Slovenia, and Hungary.

This is the national Grape of Austria, every growing region grows Gruner Veltliner. Some better than others. Wachau and Niederosterreich

are the best growing regions.

The wine goes great with shellfish, pasta's and fish with fresh herbs and lighter sauces.

I will put the recipe from Sunday's "Chef at The Market" demonstration on the blog and Facebook tomorrow.
